At work, I put my headphones on and pretend to be unaware. People completely let their guards down around me because they think my music is loud enough that I can't hear. I've learned a bunch. It's hard not to crack a smile when I hear something funny, though.

Yes. Two benefits come to mind (I know you didn't ask, but...)
1) You can glean an awful lot of interesting things in life being "unaware".

2) It makes visits with certain relatives bearable. ; )

I do at work sometimes.... I don't think others realize how easily their phone conversations can be heard.
