Maturity, various personal problems in high school (not necessarily the fault of the child), etc.

I thought I was dumb in high school. Was pretty burned out. Didn't have much motivation for a couple of reasons.

Went to college, realized I needed to get my butt in gear to make something of myself, also got a confidence boost in college (cuz it was actually easier than my high school for the most part). Yes, my college grades were better than my high school ones.

High school is a hard time because it can be a stagnant environment with a competitive social scene.

Many people thrive in the freer college environment that allows one to choose classes and teachers. You can get more respect in college which some people flourish with.

College is often a better environment.

The teachers don't take roll. They let you take breaks. They let you talk and challenge them. Sometimes they are even human beings!

In secondary school the TEACHER is PARENT.

That can be a turn off.

I had horrible grades in HS. Once I got into college I realized it was important and took pride in my work. I currently have a 3.6 gpa.
