Would it be safe to put my 11-day-old five-millimeter-long fry with my betta in my ten gallon nursery?
My betta had finrot so after my weeklong ordeal with him and his meds I finally got it under control and fixed. So i've had him in a little bowl all this time and so this same day I take my fry out to clean the gravel of their tank and i do a 50-60% water change. After I did the change I was thinking that maybe this was too much and that now my nitrogen and ammonia might need to do a quick cycle again so I stick my betta in there (I read somewhere something about the cycle going faster if fish are present) but now im wondering if I can put my fry in there and leave the betta there too instead of in the 25gl community tank which I think is too big for him.
Is this a good idea or should I just put him back in the community?
Ps: The largest part of the fry, their heads, at the moment are JUST small enough to still fit in his mouth. Oh and dont bash me on the betta in the tank. Hes fine.

Yeah, my last resort was to move the swordtail fry to another container while I cleaned the tank but it couldnt be avoided. I had sand as the gravel for my tank that I hadnt cleaned in a few months so... they would have been much more stressed out in the nursery while I cleaned it.

I wouldn't push my luck that way if I were you. One, fin rot has a nasty way of returning from the grave. Just when you think you have it under control BAM here it comes again. So you would have the risk of infecting the fry. Also, he may very well see the fry as food. A tank would be safe after a 50-60% water change, won't harm the nitrogen cycle at all. I also wouldn't suggest removing the fry from the tank to do a water change. Moving them is very stressful and a good way to loss them quickly.

Best of luck with all of it

I would not put the Betta and the fry together. The Betta will most likey eat the little guy and that wouldn't be good. I would leave the Betta back in the tank and put the fry in a bowl. Betta's have pretty big mouths and I wouldn't be surprised if he chomped the fry down as soon as you put them together.

The betta will most certainly eat the fry. I'd put him in the 25 gallon tank. Betta in nature live in ponds, ditches, slow moving streams, and rice paddies. These dwarf your tiny 25 gallon tank. My main concern in a community tank if if the betta will get picked. He's a big target for fin nippers like barbs, and larger tetras. Also it possible to for him to mistake fancy finned fish for other bettas. (IE fancy male guppy.) Generally most fish simply out swim him until he settles down.

No, the betta may try to eat them until they are almost an inch. Leave him in the community tank. Bettas sometimes lose some finnage in community tanks with good filtartion, its ok, the shorter fins help them get around better in the current.

I wouldn't risk it personally. Spawning bettas is a big accomplishment and I wouldn't take a chance. Congrats on your fry!
