Anyway, the real answer is in case there is only 1 worker, and he has to go to the bathroom, he just locks up the place for about 10 minutes.. Or if a hurricane or something else strikes, they might need to leave...

It may be for security reasons. If they are ever robbed, the clerk is supposed to lock themselves in after the criminal has left.
