martin luther king was a Christian, in the truest sense of the word...and he drove conservatives crazy! it really shook them up to see true Christianity in action...they loved to talk the talk, but they never could quite get the hang of walking the walk...his beliefs that everyone had value, everyone had dignity, and everyone had rights really ticked off the powerful in this country...and when he spoke of the disproportionate burden carried by young black men in an unjust war, folks lost their minds! i was a kid back then, and i remember what people were saying and writing about him, about the civil rights movement in general...let's just say that you can do all the revisionist history you want, but conservatives in america HATED him-to pretend otherwise is a travesty

He really had no strong left or right political leanings. He knew that at that time both liberal and conservative politicians were part of a "good old boy" network that all wanted to keep the black man down. He pissed off both parties. The words liberal and conservative were considered a way to slander the other party. It is only in the last 20 years or so that each party has embraced these words.

I would say that when it comes to family values and patriotism he was Conservative. When it came to looking out for the little guy and ending bigotry he was more on the Liberal side.

No, he was not completely liberal...at least, not liberal as it's defined today. He was a progressive.
And no, conservatives did not all hate him.

Well sir, basic history shows that the republicans freed the slaves, fought for their civil rights and even allowed African-Americans to vote under the voting rights act. Hate is a personal issue and not that belonging to a party.

you could label him as liberal , but i would call it more "progressive" than anything else, dont let the media brainwash u into thinking that everyone is lib or neo-con, its a tactic used to devide & distract us from what is really going on

Could you please show just a shred of proof that Conservatives hated Rev. King? He stood for everyone, and he'd be disappointed at the childishness of the Libs today.
