Okay so I got this tank about 3 weeks ago, and since then I have purchased a few different live plants from the petstore - I'm guessing it was in one of those. I noticed the other day that there was an odd looking black/brown thing on the bottom & I totally forgot to check what it was (I got distracted), when I remembered - it was gone. I just saw it now & it is in fact a snail - very small one. About 1 cm? It's obviously lived this long without me knowing anything but do you have ANY information AT ALL about this? Food it eats, anything at all.

Yep, came in riding on your plants. It will eat algae and left over food and will cover your tank in more snails before you can turn around. My suggestion get it out right away and kill it. hen kill any others you see pop up... there may also be eggs on the plants that will hatch into many, many little snails all over the place. These small snails reproduce too fast to be considered good for a tank.

You got a snail that was attached to live plants. Right now it is almost impossible to get snails;the storesaren't able to get them..These snails eat anything you feed your fish, includind the plants. They can reproduce so much that you may evetuaaly have to get rid of them, because they can become a nuisance. They don't grow big, they just multiply quickly.

I heard that there are a few kinds of fish that actually eat snails. I wouldn't go killing the snail right away. I'd research as to what fish eat them and maybe get one of those. Then it would get rid of your snail problem while also having a good meal.

Pond snail or Ramshorn. The shells are decidedly diverse in structure, so for you to be actual waiting to inform in case you look them up. I have both in my tanks and performance not in any respect had an infestation of snails in any of my tanks. In my Betta-in hardship-free words tanks they're saved at bay via the Bettas, who devour maximum individuals of the wee ones once they hatch. solid success.

As you said, it came in on the plants. Best thing is to remove it because snails are true hermaphrodites, & so just the one snail can rapidly multiply & you will be teeming with the little blighters.

ALWAYS wash new plants under running water
crush the snails against the glass- the fish will love it. probably it's too late- you won't be able to keep up with the snail crushing..
always rinse new plants.

The problem with live plants is you can bring in snails....THEY WILL OVERCOME YOUR TANK....Chemicals won't work, cleaning it won't work.......The only thing I've seen that was successful was snail eating fish....The good thing is they will eat the ghost snails too......so then nothing bad will happen afterwards!

It's the legendary "ghost snail." Don't be alarmed, but it only shows up when something very bad is going to happen.
