i was eating some icecream and i shivered, but didn't know why (besides the fact that i was cold) but WHY does the body do that?

Your body works very hard to maintain homeostasis--the correct temperature, pH, ion balance, etc. You shiver because your body senses that it is too cold. Muscle contractions create heat. A few minutes of BBBrrrr and your temp rises and you stop shivering. Cool, huh?

It is our body telling us hey, something is happening. Shivering is natures way of generating heat and trying to keep us warm.
