I think illegal immigration needs to be stopped, and frank discussion needs to be had on the impact of future growth, and how we go about it. The world has kind of taken a turn for the completely stupid, and the potential negative ramifications of runaway growth due to poor administration of our borders as well as immigration policy point to consumption of our seed corn, and likely the end of our standard of living, such as it might be, if we're not careful. Beware politicians bearing gifts...or expecting them...

It's official. Borders are going away. As brought to us by Bush while many were distracted with racist bickerings, we are now one Superstate. N.A.F.T.A., as you know, is an economic alliance between Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. Without Congressional over-site, Bush this winter signed into law a political extension of that agreement in which the three nations are now the new North American "Superstate" called SPP. All borders are to be "streamlined" and eventually eliminated, major new toll highways are already planned to connect all three nations (including the big one eight football fields wide right up through the center of the new Superstate that the King of Spain will hold the lease and profits from), a common currency (eventually, not at first) and common citizenship. Here is the new government's official website:

Unfortunately your question is moot, as Bush has already signed a deal with Mexico and Canada that will eliminate both borders, forming a new Superstate, originally called the North American Union, and now more cleverly referred to as the SPP.

I point to one moment in history: The Romans tried to Close their borders... You might as well try to stop the wind from blowing!

That would be a very bright idea, completely destroy a billion dollar tourist indusrty, not to mention that America does not sustain it's own population. In order to grow industrially and economically you need to supplement the work force from outside the boarders. In the short term it will completely destroy the economies of states whole economies rely upon tourism, collapse already fragile industries companies will be forced to outsource.

Closing the boarder will destroy the economy. Unless you are really keen on watching the American economy crumble I would keep such ridiculous ideas to yourself.

I think the USA should call all of it's troops home, slam the doors, shutter the windows and let everyone else take care of themselves. All accusations aimed at the USA would stop except to say they are protectionist people.

Not to visitors of the sort who leave, or to those 150,000 or so per year we actually need. Otherwise, yes. Until our schools and hospitals recover.
