Are African Americans more concerned with being assimilated in the dominating society than looking out for "our own"

At first I was going to say we can learn from other cultures, but then I read the second part of your question.

I think it's the opposite. I think blacks are trying to be true to their culture/create a unified one rather than assimilate.

I think the white puritanical materialistic culture is not something I would want to assimilate into. Guess that's why I am a bit of a loner.

The African Americans i know are more concerned about dominating instead of"looking out for "there own ".
Not all, but some are.

Of course we can. A culture gets enriched when it assimilates the good points of other cultures. Otherwise it will not develop and will become dormant and moribund.
