start with a motive that you like, and then just start building onto your music.

Just sing the lyrics to yourself...make something up. If one thing doesn't sound right try something else. And remember the melody should match the lyrics. Like if the lyrics are really dark and doomy, don't have a pop music melody.

Melody usually comes before lyrics.

you should have the melody when your writing the lyrics otherwise you give it to a friend whos talented @ that kind of stuff
