How can I keep my 7 month old asleep for the night without wanting to wake up and play? He only takes one nap a day. So he does not have his days and nights mixed up. Ever since he started rolling over he is just all over the crib.

He needs more naps. See if he will take two naps. It's counter-intuitive, but it has to do with brain chemicals. Please don't try to keep him awake all day! That backfires every time! (I know!) Make sure he plays hard all day, gets two naps, and eats plenty. Get quiet and dim the house about an hour before bedtime. It's normal for a baby to wake up a lot after learning a new skill. My youngest just learned to walk and is finally sleeping well again.

I read once in a baby magazine that if you try and have a soothing routine every night before your child goes to bed, you can help them to realize that it's night time and that they need to sleep for a long time. One suggestion was to take a warm bath and then read quiet books or sing quiet songs before laying them down. If you do this every night, then it helps them understand. I'm sorry, but I can't remember the magazine.
Also, a really great site to go to for questions like this is www.fisher-price.com. They have a parenting advice section. It's what I used for suggestions when my little boy was having trouble sleeping through the night.
Most pediatricians recoment 14-16 hours of sleep for children 1-5. It is important that your child takes a nap and get's a good night's rest for their development.
It's frustrating, but sometimes it's just a phase. My son grew out of it and sleeps great all through the night.

tuck him in later than usual. make sure he is all played out, give him a warm bath, not a wash off, make sure he has a warm bottle with some rice cereal in it like a tablespoon, turn the lights down and find a good lullaby cd to rock him to sleep by. after he is asleep leave the cd on a little lower than before he went to sleep...

Don't let him take a nap. Keep him up and only let him sleep when you sleep. It works but he can get fussy because hes tired while adjusting to the new schedule.
