The earliest they can hear the baby's heartbeat is from 9-12 weeks. They can barely see a heartbeat by ultrasound at 6 weeks. The chances of hearing it are greater 10 weeks and beyond.

The baby's heart begins to beat at about 5.5 weeks (we're talking weeks after last period - which would be more like 3.5 weeks after conception). By transvaginal ultrasound , you can typically see the heartbeat at 5weeks and 6days, though you may not be able to actually hear it until 6 weeks or 6weeks1day.

Using a medical grade doppler stethoscope, you can usually hear the fetus' heart beating by about 11 to 12 weeks - but you have to put the transducer real low on the abdomen - just above the pubic bone.

No i don't think so, that's why the doctor doesn't check for a heart beat until about the 10-12 week.
