Personally, I think it's a good idea. If you missed an important equation during lecture or so because you just couldn't pay attention, you should be able to learn it on the Internet. That's what technology is for right? Just as long as you LEARN IT, not just get the answer (you're hurting yourself anyway through the latter). What do you think.

Well you know we're all human. Not everyone can sit through a 2-hour lecture and then go to another lecture, and another, without losing it sometimes. Sometimes I just can't focus because I'm too tired.

I agree that this forum is one of many useful tools to help students to learn. I am of the belief that maybe I can explain something in a way that a student can learn it, but maybe the way another teacher taught it is unclear...and vice versa. I encourage my students to use Yahoo Answers, or some other homework helper if they think it will help.

I prefer to help brainstorm and give enough help to get the student back on track. Sometimes a student will know the answer in class but will get confused at home and there may be no one else to help them. Or to help clarify a point. It might be the spark that gets a fire going, so to speak. I agree, I try to not answer those who want someone to do the assignment for them.

Why oh why are there so many posts in Homework Help? What is the purpose of homework? If it is for independant practice or for an assignment that can be done no other way, such as the interviews and projects, then why for example are there so many requests for project ideas? I would think the teacher had given criteria for the finished product, where they can find info. and ideas. Why can't students pay attention as you suggest?(I know one doesn't answer a question with questions, but this is certainly an issue worthy of further discussion).

I think its a good tool for learning, if you either missed something or just need a little extra help. The problem is those people who get on here and ask people to do their homework for them.

I have no problem with students getting help from yahoo answers - I do have a problem if people are doing all of their homework for them and they aren't learning anything from it. So I believe I am in agreement with you.

Good Luck!!!
