Basic premise is this... a genetic researcher found markers in a small group of people around the world that indicated the potential for having superhuman powers. He is killed, and his skeptical son gets drawn into his work and tries to start tracking the people on his list down.
The main storyline has been built off of two predictions- 1 from Hiro from the future that stated that the cheerleader must be saved and 2 Isaac's painting (and now Peter's visions) that there is a nuclear explosion that takes place in New York and somehow they have to try and stop it. There is a serial killer that cuts off the top of victim's heads, and he is somehow linked to all this as well.
Peter and Hiro and Isaac have basically embraced their powers and are trying to prevent the bad things from happening. Some of the other heroes have no idea what the "big picture" is (Claire, Jessica and her ex and son, etc) and are dealing with their own issues right now.
Of course, that's a very basic overview. Best thing to do to understand everything is to check out ep guides for the show that have recaps for each episode.

It's a great show. These seemingly ordinary people discover they can do something special. One can bend time and space, another can fly, and another can read minds. They are trying to figure out why they have these powers and how to control them. You can read about everything at nbc.com, without spoilers. I don't want to say anything that will spoil it.
I love the stories and characters. It don't feel it's an xmen ripoff - I like it better. Just knowing that these people could be you or me is cool. It's a show that leaves you hanging, and dying for the next episode. Great script and actors. And it's very creative.
Give it a try, watch it Mondays on NBC at 9PM. You can also buy it at iTunes and watch the last episode online at nbc.com

The first four episodes were advertised with the tagline "Ordinary people discovering extraordinary abilities". At the end of the fourth episode, an event occurs that kicked off the second arc, where the slogan "Save the cheerleader, save the world" has appeared many times. Several characters presume this phrase to refer to Texas high school cheerleader Claire Bennet, who has the ability to rapidly heal from injury, and the apocalyptic visions of New York artist Isaac Mendez. Beginning at the conclusion of the episode "Fallout," a new tagline appeared, "Are you on the list?" although this tagline was not mentioned in the preview to "The Fix". As the characters slowly discover their abilities and the existence of others like them, they begin to realize the need to come together to prevent a catastrophe and save mankind.

The first shows were basically an introduction to people and their powers, which they were just becoming aware of. Hiro went into the future and seen a huge explosion in New York. So now it's just building up to that explosion. We're all waiting to see how the explosion starts, if they can prevent it, or how they stop it once it starts. A good way to catch up is to read the graphic novels at nbc.com. They give you back story info that you don't see on the show.

It would take forever for me to explain it all, but I know some people who can. There is a pod-cast done by fans called The Tenth Wonders. If you have a MP3 player or an iPod (you can subscribe via iTunes), then you can listen to them discuss individual episodes while you are driving or working. If you don't, you can listen to the pod-cast on their website. Go to:
http://www.thetenthwonder.com/
These guys are funny, and insightful. I hope you get as big a kick out of listening to them as I do.
P.S. Does anyone else find "Save the Cheerleader, Save the World" as awesomely funny/bad as I do?

The basic plot is that a solar eclipse is coming and as it nears all of these people with super powers begin to get stronger and begin to some how be attracted to one another. The conflict comes from those trying to manipulate them for whatever the reason. That is the basic plot, that and the fact that the world could expode for some reason.

I've seen it from the beginning and I think it's one of the best shows that's been on TV for a long time. It would take me an hour to bring you up to date on it though. I suggest going to the NBC website for it - you can watch all of the episodes for free. You can also do a search and find a bunch of forums where people talk about the show. Hope you catch up on it - it's really been enjoyable watching it!

I love "Heroes". Each week, they answer a couple questions, then raise a hundred more!
I now have a reason to LIKE Mondays!
I think you can see repeats at NBC.com.
