Turion is good, but the faster core duo cpu's are amazing. There is a point where cpu power doesnt matter anymore.
You can have a very fast cpu, but if you dont have a good hard drive, the computer will lag. You could also have a great cpu, but if you dont have a good graphics card, then you are limited.
I personally have a core duo in my laptop, and it does not run hot at all. Also, the xbox has an ibm cpu, not a core duo.

Ever since i was forced to use AMD chips out of desparation i have NEVER went back to useign Pentiums...even the Duos. The Duos create alot of heat. As an example- the xbox 360 uses a core duo as its processor and it does nothing but overheat, that is why microsoft came out with extra add-on cooling fans for the 360.
At any rate, i have NEVER had problems with AMD chips and my laptop uses a Turion 64. It is very fast very inexpensive. Thats why laptops and PC's with AMD chips are waaaaay cheaper that their pentium counterparts.
I hope this helped :)

Very little software is written to make use of 64 bit processing so it would depend more on the speed of the processors than on the bit processing.
