ok i had a really long answer for you but not an exact name of who invented the hot comb. hopefully this helps.

No, Madam Walker did NOT invent the straightening comb. This erroneous claim seems to have originated during the 1920s after Madam Walker's death when the officers of the Madam C. J. Walker Manufacturing Company purchased a patent for a metal comb from a man who had supplied combs to Madam Walker during her lifetime. While much more research is required to determine which person or persons actually created the first straightening comb, there is evidence that such hair care implements were available at least as early as 1872 when Parisian Marcel Grateau perfected his Marcel Wave. Metal hot combs were sold in Sears and Bloomingdales catalogs during the 1880s to a predominantly white clientele.
Madam Walker can be said to have been one of the people who “popularized” the use of the hot comb among black women because she taught many women how to use it, but she did NOT invent it.

I have researched a little and the pressing comb being invented starts way back in Paris in like the 1800's but I think that the first African-American that invented the hot comb was Annie Malone. No one knows about her that much because her efforts were overshadowed by Madame C.J.Walker's hair products.

It was Annie Turnbo Malone who patented the first hot comb, she was also the first Black millionaire and she built Poro College, the first U. S. college for cosmetology for Black Americans. Walker was just one of her 75,000 students and has received the credit that belongs to Malone.
