My computer took a dump and apparently (from a computer tech) I have a bad hard-drive. I asked him about recovering ANY info off of the bad drive, but he said it would cost $500 to send it out and have a company pull some info off of it. The info on there isn't thaaaat important, but I do have a lot of work documents as well as my music library and a lot of pics that I've taken over the years. Are there any programs THAT WORK? I can't even load into Windows, even in safe mode. If there arent any programs that actually work for this, what (if any) options do I have in order to recover some of the data? Thanks....

(also refer to my other previous question about my computer crashing if you want more details, or email me....)

It depends how bad the hard drive is. If you can't boot off of it but can slave it to another computer you may be able to recover most of it pretty easily -- just do it fast before the drive gets worse. If it can't be read that way there are tools you can try, since the data isn't that important, which might work or might screw things up even more.
