Trying to think of an interesting tank mate for my tiger barb and tinfoil barbs....
I want a bottom dweller or other unique addition that will be compatable.
As an interesting note... one of my tinfoil barbs is a traitor and has joined the tiger barb school almost exclusively.

Yes I'm aware that the Tinfoils will become larger... and I do have a future home for them... they're going to be tank mates with the tigers until they get too large... for now they're fine.

I have three tiger barbs and I just recently put in three otos they all get along and both are very active plus the otos are really good at cleaning the tank by eating up the algae, this saves me time in having to clean the tank all the time.

Considering a Tiger barb gets to about 2.5" and a tinfoil barb grows to at least 12" they really aren't very good tank mates for each other to be honest. Tiger barbs are well known fin nippers and will harrass anything smaller and slower than they are so smaller fishes would be out of the question. Tinfoil barbs are very active and though not well known as trouble makers, they have been known to eat smaller fishes. Unless you have a 100+ gallon tank, it would be best to find a new home for the tinfoil barbs and new tank mates for the tiger barbs.

Aquariums containing Tiger Barbs can also have the following fish: all types of Danious and Gouramis, a single Rainbow Shark, a single Red Tail Shark, and a single Plecostomus Catfish. You can put in schools of Bala Sharks, Yoyo Loaches or Clown Loaches and still have a compatible living environment for all of your fish. You could add Swordtails, Platies and Mollies (but not Fancy Guppies as they are too small and will get attacked or eaten by aggressive Tiger Barbs). For some reason, Tiger Barbs do not like Angel Fish. If you put them in a tank together, the Tiger Barbs are likely to bite the fins off the Angel Fish.

If you had a 20 gallon and wanted tiger barbs, limit it to those fish. maybe do 9 tiger barbs and three panda cories. Tiger barbs do not play well with other fish if they are kept in a small tank in small groups.
