Mac OS 9 is a very mature and some think better operating system than OS X. However, Apple no longer supports OS 9 so if you have trouble you may be out of luck.

Hi Grilled cheese lover,
Well, first off, Mac OS X is Mac OS 10 which is far superior to Mac OS 9 which is, naturally the older (classic) OS. OS X is the direction that you need to go if you possibly can install it on your Macintosh hardware. Please check your Macintosh to see if it is capable of running on it.
All of Apple's support as well as third-party developers, is directed towards OS X and not OS 9. However, if you have ancient beige Macintosh hardware (before PowerPC processor) then Mac OS 9 might be the only OS that you can run on it. You didn't mention what hardware that you have.
You might be able still do a search at the Apple web site to find out what your hardware can run on it. It lists all of the past Mac models somewhere there and the technical information about them.
Best of luck to you.

Yes. I run it on a few Macs of older vintage, that are unable to be upgraded to OS X! I also run some of the other OSes. such as Yellow Dog Linux, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, for the Power PC!

to respond to your question the G3 Clamshell iBook can and any sort after that. It got here with non-obligatory Airport and could run as much as OS X 10.3.9 you will desire to retro in fantastic condition your older Mac with a instantaneous card and needed drivers in case you will hit upon them. Your ideal wager may well be to get a extra recent Mac and make existence undemanding for your self.
