To defragment a pc first open the start menu. Then go to the control panel which is in the right column on the start menu. if you have a newer computer, XP, then click on performance and maintance. Under pick a task click on "rearrange items on your hard disk to make your computer move faster". This opens a knew window called 'disk defragmenter'. Click on defragment to begin. If you have an older computer the control panel should be able to be accesd through the start menu also. However the control panel will be set up diferently. To reach the disk defragmenter go to administrative tools. Then double click computer manegment. A knew window opens, in the column on the left under storage you will see disk defragmenter click on this. i sugest maxamizing the window to see see the defragmenter better. When you have the defragment open click defragment to defragment your computer. This will take a while. You can minamize the screen and continue to work. Make sure you don't shut down your computer when the computer is defragmenting or you will have to start all over again.
Another thought: When in the control panel after you click on performence and maintenance you can also choose free up space on your hard drive which does a disk cleenup. This does not take very long at help your computer move a little faster.
I hope this helps you.

For Windows XP
Begin by first clicking on the Start Button.
Then move your mouse over the All Programs icon to display all Start Menu folders.
If your Start Menu is set to the Classic View, move your mouse over the Programs folder instead.
Now, move your mouse onto the Accessories menu folder until it expands.
Then move your mouse onto the System Tools menu folder until it expands.
Now Click on the Disk Defragmenter icon to launch the program.
Then use your mouse to highlight the drive that you want to Defragment?
Then click on the Defragment button located on the lower left hand center of the screen.
Windows XP will analyze your drive first and then display a visual estimate of the final results.
And Windows XP will continually show you a progress indicator bar depicting its progress.
When Windows is finished it will ask you if you would like to quit the Defrag Program.
Select YES to quit the Disk Defragmenter Program and then reboot your computer.

if you have windows...go down to the start button and click on it
then go to all programs and go up to accessories
go down to system tools...it should be the third option down
and it says disk defragmenter
click on it and a screen should come up that has colored lines and all. Click on defragment and that should do the trick.
It'll take a while to have it defrag so be patient and go watch TV or something. And when it's done restart your computer.
All set!!

Follow this chain:
Start menu...
All programs...
Accessories...
System tools...
there, you'll find the disk defragmentor. Click on it and the process will begin. It can take a long time, so I like to do it before I go to bed. That way, it's done when I awake in the morning. Also, before starting, go onto your desktop and right-click to select 'properties'. Under 'screen saver', select [none] to turn it off so that it won't interrupt defragmenting when it pops on.
