I used to have the same issue when I was a teenager. After a little research this is what I found:
The human brain is very busy trying to make sense out of all the stimulus that it is confronted with all day long. When you lie down to sleep, no matter how you try to keep odd sounds out of your sleeping area, things get in. The neighbor's, animals outside, traffic driving in the distance, electronic devices cooling off after being on for hours (TV's especially) all the little background stuff like pipes expanding and contracting roofs cooling off and the like. This all creates a backgound noise that varies and changes creating sounds that your brain can't identify.
The main thing your speach centers of the brain spends time doing during the day is listening to sounds, for verbal clues and meaning. What you are experiencing is the speech center of your brain trying to make words out of clanks, grunts, hums, bumps, squeaks and vibrations. Very annoying at best but spirits, no. Sorry.
If you want this to stop, at night just run a small fan or one of those sound systems that sound like ocean surf or rain and the "spirit talking" will no longer be an issue.

Ever heard of resonant frequencies or harmonics? Well, all living things operate at a certain frequency. Ours is in tune with the Earth's which is about 7.83 Hz.
Our brains can (and have been shown through experiments) be altered with certain frequencies to induce moods by modifying it's waveform. 6.6 Hz produces depression.
Ever heard about the HAARP project in Alaska, or GWEN towers? These projects are (weakly) disquised as research, but have some horrible capabilities. (to us and the Earth) They can be used to transmit high power ELF waves (Elevated Low Freqeuency) at 400-450 MHz to modify our extemely vulnerable brain waves.
What could be happening to you is that are experiencing inner-cerebral hearing, via a microwave carrier beam. In other words: a transducer is used to modify the spoken word into ELF audiograms, that are then superimposed on a pulse modulated microwave beam.
Years ago, this required an implants (usually in a tooth) to 'recieve' these signals. These days, all there needs to be is a micro-sized 'reciever' from a flu-shot, for example (get one lately?) that gets embedded in the brain's little capillaries.
All you have to do is plug your ears. If you can still hear it, then it is from an internal 'reciever'. There's not much you can do for that, short of wearing a tinfoil helmet. They say Selenium and Flouride can act as a 'reciever' also.
If anybody is reading this and laughing, click on the links. I dare you. It will open your eyes. Guaranteed.
The science is real. (though it can be some 'chewy' technical stuff sometimes and has to do with mind-control theories)
Tesla began it all with his research on transmitting power using ELF waves. All he had to do is say 'free-energy' and they shut him down. But that's another story...
On a lighter note, I once heard faint voices through my guitar amp. It was picking up a local radio station!
Good luck to you.

It is believed that spirits will try and communicate with us right before we're about to fall asleep. This is because of the relaxed state we're in and we're much more psychically open in those few moments before sleep.
This is a very common phenomenon, and if you start listening and trying to get more information, you may find the information useful. Our spirit guides and deceased loved ones could be trying to get important messages across to you, so I suggest you try and decipher what you can and keep a journal with their wisdom and write down your dreams.

This may be related to a sleep disorder. Search on "hypnagogic hallucinations"; seems to be a fairly common experience and is *not* related to schizophrenia.
That said, I also hear snatches of conversation as I'm falling asleep, and I prefer to think of them as something paranormal :) It could be a combination of both, as in if you believe in prophetic dreams and the like. Many people believe that the twilight between waking and sleeping is an opportune time to open up the doors between the worlds.

i have a very serious hearing loss due to working in constant loud noises.now i must have some low noise in the room even when sleeping or i 'hear' things constantly, scratching, buzzing, sizzling, and slurping noises but i am not afraid of a supernatural source.i do not discount this as impossible however. there may be a reason you haven't found the source of yet.

here is what i can tell you the holy bible teaches us about all of this .
have nothing to do with it . don't talk with or be friendly with someone that gets involved with such things. .
demons are real demons seek a route to enter a person that route is often given them by people who use wee gee boards and other so called games .
the sounds you hear might be almost anything you however need only trust in Christ and you then don't need to worry so long as you don't poke it with a stick that is too say mess with it.

I wish I could give you some links myself. Please can anyone help us. My son is 8 years old. About 2 years ago when we moved to this new house he told his teacher sometimes he hears things and sometimes he see's things. Wound up we had to bring him to the school pychologist, a psychiatrist who tried to tell me that makes him psychotic, etc etc. Well it's now two years later and the school psychologist called me today to say she's concerned. I begged my son to tell me what it is he's seeing or hearing etc. He told me when he's in the house sometimes he hears angels. OK here's the weird part. So have I. And so did my ex-boyfriend. I'm scared out of my mind here in this house. What can I do? I've also seen like flashes of people who really aren't there in the house, reflections in the windows that looks like someone's quickly running by but no one's there. I've heard footsteps in the house when I'm the only one home. Can someone please help us?

White Noise? Maybe you have super-keen ears (like a dog) and can hear things normal humans cannot. (I'm not kidding, I've heard about situations like this.) Don't jump to conclusions. Perhaps you are half-dreaming half-awake and are having difficulty distinguishing the 2.

I know this may sound obvious, but you can only hear spirits talking if there are spirits where you're sleeping. Research the history of your house or the area to see if anything that may cause disturbed spirits has happened in the past. Also, try to identify what they're saying or what language it is in. See if there are roots of that ancestry in your area; like if you hear German voices, see if your area was colonized by Germans, etc.
If there's little or no evidence to support your theory, chances are it's your imagination or you may have minor schizophrenia. Perhaps seeing a psychologist can help if that is the case.

I have heard noises like that since I was young, like around 12 or so. Its weird. I dont know what it is either! I have also thought that maybe I am picking up on some kind of supernatural noises.
