I have a 9 month old, she is teething, and have terrible diaper rash, and diarhea. I was told that teething does not cause these. What could it be and what should I do? She is on semi solids, and is formula fed.

We had the exact same thing. With some babies diarrhoea can be the result of teething. If she has a fever, is dehydrated or lethargic you should take her immediately to the doctor. A stool sample may be needed. If she does show signs of dehydration you should give her pedialyte. Our son had prolonged diarrhoea and we tried everything, went to the doctor 4 times for it, nothing changed. We finally realized that it may be caused by a food he was having. We made a log of everything he was eating and for 3 days we would cut out each item one at a time to see if it would make a difference. We also made sure not to introduce any new foods at the time. She enough it was his infant cereal. The day after cutting it out of his diet his stool went solid!

I hope this helps.

diarhea can be caused from teething as for the rash.. Diaper rash can be caused from the stool and urine irritating the skin or you dont let her little bum dry before putting the diaper on. Try next time you change her once you get the new diaper on her before you fasten it up just let her air dry a little since the wipes add that moisture to her or which i do sometimes is just use some rash cream if there is a rash then no waiting to dry is necessary...

Good luck with that.

teething will cause diarhea and diarhea will cause diaper rash. You need to coat her bottom in diaper rash cream and change her as often as possible. Aveeno has an oatmeal bath that works really well on diaper rash and butt paste is a wonderful diaper rash cream. You could also go a few seconds without a diaper here and there.

Whoever told you that is not a parent or if she is she does not know what she is talking about!!!!!! YES teething can give a baby a diaper rash and diarhea!!!!! First use only sensitive baby wipes, make sure she has plenty to drink, and give her something she can chew on like a teething ring or biter biscuits. These things will feel good on her gums, and she will feel better and so will you. GOOD LUCK.

Try putting antacid on her bum, like gaviscon (don't use ones like pepto that contain salicylates). Just a thin layer. This wil neutrilize the acid from the diarrhea.

As for the diarrhea try some active culture yogurt UNLESS you have a reason to withhold dairy until one year. The general recommendation is 9 monts for cheese and yogurt.

And teething may or may not cause diarrhea BUT it does mess with the immune system which can cause a little bug to give diarrhea. The active culture should help, and the dairy is binding.

Cloves are also good at releiving teething pain, you can make a tea and dip a cloth in it -room temp (freeze the cloth if you like). Or you can buy clove essential oil BUT dilute it with oil, test it on your mouth. Too strong and it can burn. Clove oil is the primary iingredient in most OTC temporary fillings so it really does work.

Something she has eaten has upset her tummy and is giving her the diarrhea which is giving her the diaper rash. Try limiting her to just 1 type of food per meal. Like at breakfast, give her some fruit and her formula. Lunch, a vegetable and her formula, instead of a fruit and veggie at 1 meal. Be sure she gets lots of fluids because diarrhea can cause dehydration too.

For the rash, get some A&D ointment and rub on her bottom. It works very well.

actually what you heard is not true. teething causes excess saliva which can lead to diarhea, which can lead to diaper rash. it is all connected. the best thing to do is keep her hydrated and maybe let her run around without a diaper for a little while to air out, and use Desitin diaper rash cream. it will all go away in a few days.

I have an 8-month old just like that. It's an old wives' tale, but diarrhea and diaper rash are a sign of teething. Also ear-tugging, it relieves the pain. Nutramigen formula also causes very smelly, loose stools.

well the diaper rash is most likely coming from the diarrhea. The diarrhea on the other hand may be cause by many things. She could have a little stomach virus. Call her doctor tomorrow and tell him what is going on. Good Luck!

Teething can cause diarhea. Diaper rash is caused by stool mixing with urine and irritating the skin.
