"Sick and tired" of AFI??
Dude they've been together for FIFTEEN years yet you're only whining about them now? I guess you're just one of those people who've only just heard of them and dare talk sh*t about them.

No, they're not that generic sh*t. They are actually very different to all those bands that you just pointed out.

First of all, those bands are just babies when compared to AFI.
AFI's been together for over a decade and a half. They were once an underground hardcore-punk band. And very well respected especially in the Bay Area. And their guitarist now, Jade, is from Redemption 87, another great and well respected band.

You should be shot for putting AFI with those bands, especially when you don't even know anything about AFI besides "Miss Murder" or "Love Like Winter".

They've released about 25 albums and EPs combined. They're not just a band that got fame and hyped over straight-away. They worked hard for it. They toured for many, many years. And released albums and EPs that never went beyond underground.

I'm 100% sure that you've never actually listened to their stuff and you've only just found out about them. Because if you did, you wouldn't be talking sh*t about them. Those who've only heard of them will never be able to fully appreciate AFI or respect their early work.

Listen to their first three albums. Those were pure quality hardcore-punk. And Sing The Sorrow was a masterpiece. When that album came out, it was so different to what was going on back then. It saved the world from pop-"punk" that was dominating the music scene, lead by Simple Plan and Good Charlotte.

I can't believe you even call them "generic". No, no kid. They never sound the same. They always sound different with every release. And us fans know it.

In their early days, they were straight-up punk, like 80's punk. Then they became more hardcore. Then hardcore with a taste of darkness. Then goth-punk, think The Misfits and The Cure. Then more glam and more anthemic but still dark. The new album also has a few songs that show off their old hardcore roots.

They're not generic. You can't say that because you've never listened to their stuff besides the singles. Because if you did, you'd know they're quite unique in what they do.

Listen to their old stuff. That's quality hardcore-punk for ya.
Nothing beats old-school AFI.

They're success has been a long-time coming. They didn't just get signed, got a big record deal and shot up at the charts straight-away, like most other bands these days. NO. They worked hard, they've paid their dues. They sacrificed alot. They toured tirelessly and kept playing.

Oh and if you can't tell the difference between the bands, then I suggest you get your eyes checked. Though I don't think that will work. You just don't have any musical knowledge to verify differences in the music. You should stop focusing on what they look like and just listen to the music. Then maybe your ears would learn.

And stop watching MTV if you really want great music. If you hadn't been so busy watching MTV, then maybe you would have found out about AFI years ago when they were still underground. Instead of just finding about them now. And I don't think you're really in the position of asking where all the originality has gone.

Stop talking sh*t about things you know nothing about.
And spare the embarrasment of humiliating yourself. Especially by those who know more than you do. Eventually, you'll learn.
I bet you're not even into hardcore or punk.

Nothing beats old-school AFI. If you talk sh*t about them, then bring on the beef!!

YES!!!! A_fire_inside_aod you NEVER fail to amaze me. You took the words right out my mouth. All I'm gonna say is that I really hate it when people base not only AFI, but other bands in general on what they look like, and on one song or album. Might I just add that most bands and their press teams, usually put out songs that they know are gonna hit the top 40, you know "pop friendly" tunes. As she said, you probably know AFI since "miss murder" hit the scene. Decemberunderground, really doesn't sound anything like Miss Murder or LLW, and alot of new fans are disappointed because of that. Because of points made by A_fire_inside_aod, which I agree with, I don't think you have the right to judge AFI. You know nothing about them, because if you did, you'd NEVER put them with this group of bands, and you'd know that the AFI fans will come and rip you apart.

As far as 30 seconds to mars, Fall out boy, Hawthorne Heights, yes, I will agree that they sound the same, and most likely won't even last HALF as long as AFI has, because they have a generic sound. I also see them as fad bands. You know, they have a few catchy tunes, then disappear, I'll also say that about Panic! at the Disco.

As far as My Chemical Romance goes, though they are only 4 years old, I do have a respect for them. After reading countless articles on them, as well as interviews, and encounters with other MCR fans, I've come to realize this band is a dedicated band who love their music and their fans, who have real problems like other humans, and not just "looking for a top 40 hit"
I truly do think that they have potential for longetivity.

My last point is that no matter what band you are, those damn fangirls, can and WILL tear at a band's reputation. and because of that some bands WILL lose some credibility. The poseurs will do the same as well. So instead of judging bands you know nothing about why don't you listen to their music and not the "hot" single" on MTV and top 40 radio.

listen here Man, you can dis any band you want, but not AFI. sure you hear them a lot, they deserve it more then anyone, of coarse people talk about them their awesome, and they've been out there for 15 years, you wouldn't last that long you immature poser, they have their own style, deal with it, stuck up fool. get a life. you can't really spell a single word, are you okay, is there anything going through your mindless head of yours? dumbo, stop saying things about AFI, and if you are tired of hearing their name, or anything else just plug your ears and don't say one negative word about them, or i will have to write you another comment or letter of hatred. get it now? at least they write their own music, unlike some bands, and if you want more info on them read their book, listen to their music, they will rock you like a hurricane, and watch their DVD and see how much people love them, they have a fan base every where. so just walk away and don't say a word you little cream cracker.

Naw man. If you listen to AFI's old stuff, that's some awesome stuff. I don't care much about MCR.
But I'm telling you right now, you've made a mistake on posting your question because you're missing out on a great hardcore-punk band.

They have been making music for the past 16 years. Surely you would like some of their songs. If not, then hardcore or punk must not be your taste.
