I have heard some rude comments to people on Medicaid. We do not milk the system and both of us work. I am 14 weeks pregnant and am on Medicaid to provide medical to our child. Granted there are some people who do, but that is NOT the majoritiy. What do the general public think? If we needed to (of course we do not) we would not hesitate to get on food stamps if it provided for our children. The truth is we can not get health insurance and this is the only way we can get on health insurance. I would not care if it were me but we are talking about our child here. I am pregnant and it is important for prenatal visits. I will get off Medicaid after our child, but our child will remain on it. Why do people see all people on Medicaid as "milking the system"??

It is as close to a national health care system as we have. It is poorly administrated. If anyone "milks" it, it is the doctors and other institutions that double bill or overcharge. Listen, you have NOTHING to be ashamed of for using resources available to you.
I used to administer welfare: grants, food stamps and medical cards as a Human Service Caseworker. You might be interested to know that social security benefits, medical and food stamps are provided to thousands of supposedly "persecuted" nationals from foreign countries that have never worked a day in America, until they die! It is these people, in my opinion, who milk the system. They even get free transportation to "medical" appointments by their "countrymen" who own medical transport services. The chief reason for transport was to get a "massage." I'm not kidding. The people were elderly. The trips cost about $100. each!
I supervised payment as a Human Service Caseworker for such transportation and was threatened by what I called the wheelchair mafia for uncovering the fact that the majority of the trips were actually to banks, grocery stores and other shopping! I won't name the group of people, because I don't want to cloud the issue by being accused of being racist, but they were all white peoples. So much for blacks milking the system.
In addition to that, we spend BILLIONS of tax dollars on foreign aid, space exploration and pointless wars.
You getting health care is not breaking the national bank. Do what you have to do. Funny how when the federal government bails out companies like Chrysler it's called a hand, but when citizens who can't work or afford assistance need help its called a handout.
Many states are now providing free health care for all children, even with income levels for parents up to $60,000. Look into that too. You deserve to bring a healthy baby into the world. Ignore the uninformed. They are legion. Best wishes for a healthy pregnancy, a speedy delivery and a healthy, happy baby.

I think getting the healthcare you and your child need is what is most important. There are 43 million uninsured Americans in this country so we obviously need a better system. It is not necessarily someone's fault or wrong doing when they can not afford a private health insurance plan. My husband and I where self employed before we had our son. We carried our own private health insurance and after my son was born with no complications our rates went up to $1600 per month for our family of three. I am sure most working families could not afford to pay that kind of rate if they did not have access to group health insurance. We where fortunate to be able to afford those kinds of rates but I realize most people are not in that situation.

I think it is great . It helps women and children who otherwise could not get health care because of financial situations. It should be offered to ALL pregnant women insured or not. It would combat premature births due to little or no prenatal care. I do not see it as "milking the system" I see it as providing for our future. God Bless America to have such a system. Hold you head up girl. At least your doing the right thing.

I was on Medicaid during my first pregnancy b/c my daughter's dad abandoned me and I could not afford medical care. I worked my butt off 40+ hours a week at Wal-mart just trying to make ends meet. People who don't have income difficulties say we "milk the system" b/c they want the money that comes out of their check to support Medicaid.

Theres nothing wrong with it at all. Im on it because i had to quit school and that took me off my parents insurance which left me and my baby with nothing. Since i was only working part time I couldnt get anything through work. So no its not milking the system I think that only occurs when people have 10 kids both sit at home and dont work and use that to support their families just because they are to lazy to get jobs. Good Luck

I think it is a good thing to those who need it.There are times, when I used it and if I did not have it my kids would of been without. The state does not allow someone who they feel does not need it.Those who judge, and never have lived on hard times are just too judgmental and self-centered.We pay taxes and if we need it than, we should be able to use it without those placing judgment.Don't listen to others just do what you have to and know your kids are benefiting from it in the long run. It's better in that situation to let pride go and just do what it is you have to.I have been there and it's not a bad thing.Forget what they say, and just be proud of you and your new " little blessing" coming into the world.

I have nothing against people getting medical cards, foodstamps, welfare, hud and anything else. Even if there were none of this the state would still cut taxes out of people's paydays so i do not get why people worry about what others are getting.
I am sure if alot of people could get these things listed above they would.
I would not worry about other people. Most people will not admit that they get foodstamps and a medical card and then talk down about it but who cares what they think, it is you not them.

My kids and I have the medical card. I stay at home with my 2 kids. My youngest is 1. My BF works 80 hours a week for me to stay home with the kids to make sure they get the proper care, education, and safety. We hardly have enough just to pay the rent and bills. That's why we get the medical card. If it wasn't for the medical card my kids wouldn't be able to get those mandatory shots and my smallest daughter wouldn't have been able to have heart surgery. I am very thankful for the help we get.

I do not see anything wrong with it. Medicaid only accepts people who need it. Besides if everybody else is doing it why not you. The system milks us!

I don't think you should feel bad for it at all. If you are trying to make it by working and providing then you are doing the best you can. Its not you thats messed up it's the public health system thats messed up.
