1) undefined
Notice that if you graph those points, the x coordinate does not change but the y coordinate does. This is a vertical line. Remember that slope = (change in y)/(change in x) and in this case therre is no change in x so you have a zero denominator. So slope is undefined because division by zero is undefined*
2) 5
To do this one, just put change in y on top and change in x on the bottom. That is, (6-(-4))/(3-1) That simplifies to 10/2 which is 5. If you graph this line you'll get a line that goes up 5 units for every 1 it goes over. It almost appears vertical, but not quite. For more info see
http://www.purplemath.com/modules/slope.htm
3) 0
This one has no change in y. So when you do change in y/change in x you get (2-2)/((-4)-2) = 0/(-6) = 0. Note that it's ok to have 0 on top of a fraction, that just means 0. But you can't have 0 on the bottom of a fraction.
* But why can't you divide by 0? that's another frequently asked question. The reason why you can't divide by 0 is because it's impossible to assign any consistent meaning to all expressions that you get by dividing by zero. For more info see...

PS the first answerer is very unkind, but he has a point; if you get other people to do your math for you, then you won't learn it for yourself. Since you need to learn certain math to graduate, if you do'nt learn math you won't graduate and your options in life will be limited.

If you graph them, you will see that the first and third questions give straight lines; a vertical straight line has a gradient that is "undefined", and a horizontal straight line has a gradient of zero.
For the second question, use the equation m = Δy / Δx, where
m is the gradient
Δy is the difference in the y-coordinates
Δx is the difference in the x-coordinates
So Δy is the difference between 6 and -4 (i.e., 10) and Δx is the difference between 3 and 1 (i.e., 2).
10 divided by 2 is 5, so the gradient is 5.

Slope formula
m = y2-y1
--------
x2-x1
1. ( -4 , -8 ) ; ( -4 , 2 )
(2 - -8)/(-4 - -4) = 10/0 Division by zero, is undefined which means this is a vertical line.
2. ( 3 , 6 ) ; ( 1 , -4 )
(-4 - 6)/(1-3) = -10/-2 or 5
3. ( -4 , 2 ) ; ( 2 , 2 )
(2 - 2)/(2- - 4) = 0/6, zero divided by anything is zero, which means we have a horizontal line.

Don't let these morons fool you into thinking that YOU are the one that is astray. Most of these toads couldn't think their way out of a wet paper bag, and unfortunately they will go on to teach our kids their miserable and pitifully substandard habits.
Your question is genuine and here's some help.
Slope, usually denoted by "m" is defined as:
rise (y direction) divided by run (x direction)
==> m = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)
point #1 = (x1, y1)
point #2 = (x2, y2)
x1 = (-4)
y1 = (-8)
x2 = (-4)
y2 = 2
Do the arithmetic here and you wlll have the appropriate slope for each of your questions. If you have troubles....sene me a message. As for the other losers who took time to send you poisonous responses....they are idiots and probably don't know a slope from a shinola anyway, and they don't deserve to be on here in the first place.

1- infinite. This line is vertical
2- slope is 5, a change of 1 in x will be linked with a change of 5 in y
3- 0, this is an horizontal line (a change in x does not do any change in y)

once you ask 2 human beings the comparable math question and you get 2 distinctive solutions, then one is powerful or they're the two incorrect. it rather is assuming, of course, there is not a dichotomy. The atheists and others who call themselves "unfastened thinkers" are satirically extra dogmatic than the Christians they ridicule.
