I have a Dell Inspiron 9200 and when I purchased it, it was not made available for me to upgrade to Vista when it came out. I want Windows Vista, what do I have to do to get the upgrade and how much will it cost me?

Since you purchased a Dell (I've had a "great" experience with Dell) then the OS (operating system) is already pre-loaded on your PC (disadvantage is that you can't re-install the OS). Since it's a Dell and since your PC was built for you it's difficult to upgrade it because you don't know if the hardware Dell stuck in your box is upgradable.

If you want Vista, then buy a new PC with Vista already loaded on it OR build your own computer and load Vista yourself (the advantage with building your own PC is that you can always reinstall the original OS from your OS cd)

Personally I wouldn't get Windows Vista right away. Why? Because since Microsoft is known to have created some nasty bugs, I'd give it some time in order for them to fix the bugs. If you know Mirosoft, they always come out with service packs and updates for glitches, errors, and bugs for their OS's. So I'd just give it some time and don't upgrade yet.

first of all i took vista off my computer i didnt like it very much and found around 32 bugs on the operating system butthats me. if you want to upgrade to vista and you havent touch ur computer at all you will need the following

512mb of pc 2700 or 3200 ram added
maybe a new graphics card
this will cost you around 100 bucks plus the vista
also if you want the vista ultimate you will need a bigger hard drive that will be 70 dollars more

I was watching CNN the other day and they said if you wanted to get it instead of upgrading, just buy a new computer with it already installed. They said it takes up so much space. I was wanting to get it also, but I just had my tower build last year.

Go here http://www.cnn.com/TECH/

Go to more videos
Go to search
type in Vista and there will be a video of them talking about it.

Sorry for all they work, but it would not let me send the whole link!

Find out if you are eligible for a free upgrade by going to this Microsoft site & choosing "Dell" :

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/expressupgrade.mspx

If not eligable ... I wouldn't bother. I have free access to all Vista versions ... used Ultimate since last November but after reading this article & learning that Vista controls my PCs content I said bye bye & went back to XP Media Center.

It's mostly bells & whistles ... & it's more an advantage for Microsoft that we use it than it is for us.
