I have noticed that no forum member answered the question "why did the German people accept the Nazi Party. Here is what many German people told me during the year I served in the Army of Occupation:

When Germany entered World War l, almost NO Jews served their country. When the soldiers returned after four fierce years of fighting and losing the war, they found most of the industries and jobs had been filled with Jewish workers and industrialists.

In most town all of the lawyers, doctors, professional men of note were Jewish. This bred some concealed animosity against the jewish people so that when Hitler proclained that the jews ran the finances of Germany (and Europe) the citizens of Germany agreed with him.

In the 30's there was much unemployment and very hard times in Germany and Hitler promised a new prosperity and appealed the German national "pride".

As well German was political stagnant with old men like the Czar and his aging ministers. Time was ripe for a new "demagogue" with promises of great things ahead to be elected and Hitler was that man.

The really decent people I talked to said they were convinced Hitler would improve life for the average German. And even JF Kennedy's father (Joe Kennedy felt the same way.

On his return at Ambassador to England in 1938 Joe Kennedy said " I think Mr. Hitler will make an excellent leader when he takes over Europe".

The German people I talked to over many many months told me they never suspected the atrocities that occured later on and were against them but could do nothing about it. When "crystal night" as authorized and the Jewish shops were demolished and hews dragged out of their homes, the German people accepted it and hoped it would teach the jews a lesson for taking over instead of fighting for their country.

That is why the German populace accepted the Nazi Party.

And it is true that Hitler raised "national pride", created employment, gave people hope for "the greatest German race in 1000 years". Regrettably his agenda spiraled to megalomania and even his generals knew he was a madman. They even plotted to kill him but the plan backfired.

The rest is history.

I gave RonMac60 who answered above me a thumbs up. He did a nice job. I would add the following: World War I had left Germany completed devastated. Many more people died than in any other part of Europe. Their economy and many buildings were in shambles. In the Treaty of Versaille that ended the First World War, Germany was ordered to pay reparations, as in, money, to the other countries involved in the war. This was an impossible situation. They could not rebuild their own country because they had no money and what little they had must go to the other countries. People were poor and starving. They were angry and looking for someone to blame. So along came an evil, crazy man named Hitler who found what they were looking for - a scapegoat - the Jewish people. Through very hard work many of them had managed to bring themselves out of poverty. And so Hitler got the people wondering - why are the Jews doing so well and we're not? Many of the German people did not know what was happening in those death camps, and many who did know, courageously hid Jewish families in their own homes. If they were caught they would have been executed. Although Germans believed Hitler when he said the Jews were to blame, they did not condone killing them all.

The Germans were lied to. They thought that Hitler was creating a better society for them all. If you never left your home, like some of them, how would you ever know what else was going on that he wasn't telling you?

Here, Honey....read this....

Hitler wanted to eliminate every other race.
He was a dictator.
If one did not listen to his orders....they were executed.

if they didn't support him.....they were killed.
No choice with that option.

Same thing that was happening with Hussein.
He killed 300,000 of his own people because
they wanted him out.
