It was introduced as a bill in conjunction w Virginia's observation of the 400th anniversary of The Jamestown Colony by a member of the Va legislature.

The benefits of such a bill are debatable at best & might best be called "window dressing" by a lawmaker seeking attention & perhaps political support for making a statement.

In reality it brought a great deal of negative publicity, especially to the comment of a fellow lawmaker whose response to the bill was, "What's next? Do we make the Jews apologize for killing Jesus Christ?" This in turn brought more responses.....

The only way they would benefit would be the news media picking up on it and being judged as doing something "politically correct". They may also want to be seen as more "racially sensitive" than in the past. The truth of the matter is....you can't change history.

Oy, I never read that about Virginia doing that. I missed that in the news if true.
