I'm 16, about to turn 17 (not that that matters) and have yet to look for a job. As time moves on I've come to realized the world doesn't run on rainbows and lollipops and that some cash would be nice. I'm not too enthusiastic about finding a job, as I am still on the fence as to whether or not I even want one, and I don't feel like wasting my time for peanuts an hour. So what's the best way to get a job for some raggedy teenage with no previous experience and shaggy hair? On a side note, I have good social skills and good motivation.

Also note, I'm not a prep and I would much rather not work than degrade myself. I know I have high standards for my situation, I apologize.

Also, I know proper interview etiquette, so that is no issue. My problem is really finding something I'd like to do and not just subjecting myself to slave labor.

Project a neat appearance. Neat hair, neat clothes, talk intelligently and clearly. Good posture, too. Appear both serious about work, and well adjusted, easy to get along with, eager, energetic, enthusiastic. You may get a few turn downs before getting the Yes you are looking for, at no time be discouraged, it is all part of the process, it does not reflect negatively on you at all. Talk about all the skills you have, and state that you can learn and are willing to learn. There are some jobs that teenagers traditionally go for, I take it you are looking for more serious employment than those. It might be difficult, frankly, without more education. Could you handle construction? Skilled trades pay very well, same for automobile technicians. Some unskilled jobs are fairly easy to get but don't pay much and are rather tedious. If you wanted to start in the health field, starting as an orderly in a hospital would be gruesome, but you could advance thru study to be a nurse (good money!), or a doctor's assistant (much better money!). With enough training you could easily become a paralegal and from there, a lawyer. Anyway, good luck, I hope you get a job you really enjoy doing.

You can't expect to get a job without doing a little work for it. As my mother always told me growing up "Finding a job is a full time job.” The first step is to pick up applications. You may have to start in a position in a company that you are working for peanuts but there is a wonderful thing that bosses do every once in a while called promotions and raises.
Two years ago I started as a front desk clerk at a hotel now I am the assistant general manager. If you work hard and know your stuff it's easy to work your way up the ladder.
As for getting the job here's a few pointers I have learned. Make sure to dress nice and smile when you pickup and drop off your application. Take the time to say more to the person who you give the application to than here is my application. Show interest in the job right away because bosses tend to ask the opinion of the person whom you gave the application to. Use a black or a blue ink pen and write neatly. Reference letters from teachers don't hurt either since you have no previous job experience. Make sure to call back after 7 days to see if they have had time to review your application and show interest in the job you have applied for.
Next step interview...Dress with care and don't forget the shoes. Men tend to not think about or pay as much attention to there shoes as women. You could be in a nice outfit and be in street shoes and that one detail could be a deciding factor in whether or not you get the job. Make sure your handshake is firm yet not painful it will help the person who is interviewing you determine your level of self-confidence. Smile and make eye contact and give complete and honest answers. Try to avoid yes or no answers unless the question is phrased in such a way to make it necessary. Make sure at the end of the interview to thank the person who interviewed you for their time and shake their hand as you leave.
Remember two key things during the interview. First is that the person who is interviewing you is as nervous as you are but they have more experience hiding it. Second is that you are selling your skills...make sure your sales pitch is good. If you don't believe that you are bringing something valuable to the company then they most certainly will not either.

You may be limited at the present by your age. However, you should get something in the fast food or maybe in a grocery store. Do that for a year and really apply yourself, when you turn 18 you'll be ready to get a better job, paying more. Plus, your boss from the first job will give you a good reference. Don't worry about your shaggy hair, your attitude is more important. Good luck.

Don't just phone. Go to a prospective work place in person. Also, dress how you would if you were going to start working there right when you walk in. Be confident in the interview, and look the interviewer in the eye.

That's not easy.............the age and lack of experience will hurt you a bit. All you can do is apply and hope to get an interview. That is when you can use your social skills to sell yourself.

Try a grocery store or a local diner...At a grocery store you can be a cashier, stocker, sacker, or a cart pusher and at a diner you could bust tables? You could also try like some stores in the mall depending on what you are into you could try like american eagle or pac*sun.....
