Check in the control panel to see if it automatically shuts down after 10 minutes. You can disable that if that's the problem. Good luck!

.
You need to take a couple of steps to determine the cause.
A. Check the power settings:
1. Go to Control Panel > folder POWER OPTIONS
2. In the Power Options Properties window >
tab General > frame Settings for Home Office Desk...
Loot at the setting for "Turn Off Monitor" and
"Turn Off Hard Disks.
If they are both set to 10 minutes, there is the culprit.
"System Standby" should be set to "NEVER".
B. If no problem is found to explain in A. above
Then you need to determine if some program or virus is running things in the computer.
Run your Virus scan and delete any problems if finds.
If you don't have a good one
get a free excellent Home Edition from AVAST
here: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
C. If the problem is still not resolved
Discover is the fan still running?
If the machine gets too hot, (especially with no fan to cool) it might shut down, rather than fry your hard drive.
It would be an excellent time to back up all you really want on external media NOW.
Are too many hoggy programs running at the same time?
Adobe makes my computer slow to a crawl.
Only keep one program open at a time.
Check to see if your CPU is maxing in Task Manager
>>>press keyboard keys all at the same time
CTRL+ALT+DEL > then open Task Manager >
then view PERFORMANCE tab. The CPU gets very hot over 75%. Time to restart the computer to clear whatever is maxing the CPU.
Let me know what works

Well, if you want, you can completely upgrade your computer for under $800, including a motherboard, graphics card, sound card, hard drive, ram, cd/dvd rw drives, etc. You should get an Intel E6300 1.86 Ghz processor for $250, a motherboard that supports that for around $200, a sound card for $50, a dvd double layer drive for $75, 2 GB ram (1x1gb) for $150, and a graphics card for $120 (256 MB nVDIA GeForce 7600 GS). Take some good stuff out of your old pc (firewire port adapters, usb 2.0 port adapters, etc) and put them into the new pc. Then, sell the old one for around $400 or so after getting it fixed. Overall, with tax, this should NOT cost you mroe than $550.

I would recommend getting a Virus & Spyware Scanner. Some Viruses as programmed to shut down your PC after a certain amount of time online.

Replace the RAM and try to see if that helps. Just have the RAM installed on the board for like an hour and see if that changes anything. Sounds like either a RAM or BIOS problem
