My bf's mom makes him keep his window open to keep bacteria and microbes away even in the winter...is this paranoid or what?

it depends upon your environment. if you have a great outdoor view with very soothing flow of air and enough sunlight to penetrate quantitative area of the room then it will be helpful in keeping out microbes because majority of bacteria cant stand asuch situationed place. but if beyond your window are dusty air pollutants well it just aggregate and encouraged viruses better keep the room window close.

its not the window.. its just the fresh air and the air curculation. you can just open the window, or just turn on the fan. cleaning and dusting your room should also be done weekly to keep bacteria and microbs away - the air curculation is just a little add on that will help : )

keeps a fresh air flow which is good for indoor environment.
more oxygen flow in homes especially in the winter.
old folks keep their kitchen windows cracked, keeps the air from getting stuffy and stale
