Please help. I used to read a series of mystery books when i was in elementary school, approximately 1979-1981. They were about a gang of kids that solved mysteries. It wasn't Encyclopdia Brown or Boxcar Children. I seem to remember the main character being a boy with red hair and maybe glasses. Seems like his last name was Mc something. If this rings a bell, please let me know. Thanks for your time and help.

The name of the boy is Jack McGurk. The books are written by E.W. Hildick. Thanks for the information and quick response, Princess.

The "Mc" something doesn't ring a bell, but I loved the Brains Benton mysteries. He did have red hair and glasses and there were a couple of kids who helped him. Those were written in the 60s though.

Maybe E.W. Hildick's McGurk books? Those I haven't read to know if the kid had red hair... but I'll see what I can find.

Later-- yep, Jack McGurk is a red-head, and these were from the 70s.
