i have been on this method for almost 2 years, my Dr. initially said i need to "feel for the string" after every menstrual cycle. Well, I have not had a period in 7 months and am not pregnant for sure, but I can no longer feel the string. How does that work? Does it just fuse to your body after so long of being in place?

The mirena may move at times during the time of having it. I have had this twice. The first time I could not feel the strings. enither did the dr. I was not bleeding so they were not too concerned about it expelling itself but they sent me to ultrasound to be sure. They foudn it and in place.

This last time they could feel them and see them. I could not feel them. But I had it checked.

If you are really uncomfortable with not being able to feel them, call your dr and ask them about it. They will rpobably give you the same reassurance that as long as you don't start spotting or bleeding heavily you are safe.

I too do not have my cycle and have not since first month. I started bleeding back in december. the first thing they confirmed was that it was in place and in the correct place. Come to find out I have a cyst on my ovary.

I used that IUD for five years, and there were times due to sex or putting in tampons that the strings would curl up or just get pushed up a little bit too far. If you try bending your knees while standing and push down a little bit like you're having a bowel movement, you may be able to feel it. That's worked for me before. If that doesn't work, maybe you can go to the doctor and see if he could straighten out the strings for you.

The strings do soften up over time but it is possible that the IUD did come out. It's rare but does happen. You'll have to may an appt to have your doctor check for it to know for sure.

It's common to not have a period while on it too.
