It is interesting how we are led by the media to accept things. It seems it is difficult these days to get unbiased news. So much information has a spin on it.

It might get in the way of their plans if you continue to read and think for yourself.

You are a post in the fence of freedom that keeps tyranny at bay, for without individual thought there can be no freedom.

Thanks for your great question.

Forget Nostradmus. George Orwell was the best prophet for what Britain has become.
We have:
Newspeak (political correctness);
Doublethink (as above but with political overtones, i.e. Spin);
The Ministry of Love (detains people up to 28 without trial and supports extradition throughout Europe without a local warrant);
The Ministry of Plenty (arranges and allows high fuel prices, food scares etc.);
Big Brother (the real one not the brain dead C4 show - i.e cameras everywhere and the threat of 'chipping' your car so that the authorities know where you're driving, also the phone line connection on your Sky box, CIA monitoring of internet traffic etc.);
The War (let's pick on an enemy and see if it distracts the public from problems at home);
The Pigs in charge (MPs granting themselves huge remuneration packages and more immunity from public accountability).
The list goes on and on.

There have always been corrupt politicians (and kings) but it's only since World War 2 that they've been so blatantly sticking two fingers (not one, dear yanks) up at the electorate.

Incidentally, for the benefit of citizens of the USA, GW Bush and his pals are very much the newcomers on this stage. The rot set in in the UK during the Wilson/Heath years in the late 1960's and early 1970's.

Surely the way we perceive the world is influenced, if not controlled, by the pictures presented by the media, both print and broadcast. We are told that by giving up some of our freedoms we can have security, whern in fact we now have neither. As for history, remember that it's always written by the winners.

For a more accurate representation of what's going on in the world, listen to the BBC. Or google "Greg Palast videos" - he claims there's a "Berlin Wall" around the U.S. and a lot of news simply never gets reported here. Better unplug your outrage meter first.

I think the cameras on the city streets are double plus good for solving crime and catching criminals. If you are not doing anythig wrong, you would be all for it.
The media spin on things is controlled by giant corporations. There are still some papers and online sites with many other views though. If those are stopped then you will have true 1984.Media needs to make money and does what corporation wants and says what its wants to hear, but look outside your door. Right outside your door -is any of that happening? No. You are still allowed to say and think what you want. For now anyway.

I used to have a problem with double think.

As Mr Orwell puts it, the ability to hold two opposing ideas at the same time and give them both equal wieght.

And then. Over a time,

I realised that Mr Orwell was being too rigid.

A -witness situationism
B- witness Einstiens theory of relativity next to theory of chaos.
Physicists recognise the two theories are true, but cannot both be true.

Doublethink good. Single think ... Hitler? Osama Bin (rich boy)Liar?

Orwell had the right idea and in his 1984 book big brother was a camera that exploited people of their likes and dislikes and if any one tried to cheat big brother they were put in room 13 which had rats in. Big brother on channel 4 was a spy camera adapted the same idea but without the rats.

Yes, I've noticed words changing...hospitals are now medical centers, soldiers are now troops, curtains are now window treatments, how many more can you think of?

Some are just humorous...driving on park ways and parking on driveways... language changes with the politics of the times. Interesting how most word changes are influenced more specifically with the politics of MONEY.
