If you have a Mac, look up a piece of software called REASON. It's made by the Propeller Heads, a really good techno band.

There are comparible pieces of software for the PC, but I can't remember their names.

I recommend Fruity Loops / FL Studio Producer Edition . You can make some hot beats on there. I know an awesome producer, "Master Green - Tha Supa Producer" that makes his beats on FL Studio Fruity Loops. (Check out the source below to hear some beats made of FL Studio). You can find FL Studio at http://www.proaudioforless.com

My favourite software for making music is Ableton Live. It allows you to create sounds & audio tracks easily & also create an entire live set on the fly.

Many big artists & singers now use Ableton because it's so quick & flexible.

More than 75% of all cds that came out in the past 6 years have been done on the software 'ProTools'. IT's what the professionals use and I think you can download a trial. :-)
