In Ireland the National Lottery is run by An Post, the postal service, and generates funds for distribution by the Government to beneficiary projects in the areas of Health & Welfare; Youth, Sport, Recreation & Amenities; Irish Language and Arts, Culture & National Heritage. Two Lotto draws are held weekly, one on Saturday and the other on Wednesday. They also sell scratch card tickets and run a bingo game on television called Tellybingo. They also oversee the Euromillions Lotto which is a lottery where the stakes of the following countries are pooled for one draw; France, England, Spain, Belgium Luxembourg, Switzerland, Portugal, Ireland and Austria. You have to be over 18 to participate and all National Lottery prizes are tax free.
There are internet scam e-mails sent to people claiming that they have won money in lotteries and seeking their bank details which everyone should be wary about. If you didn't buy and fill out a ticket, then you didn't win.
