If you have a car, pour it in and use it. Even if it's old or has been mixed with two-stroke engine oil, a half gallon isn't going to hurt your engine. Just make sure it doesn't contain any debris. You don't want to pour spider webs or beetle shells into your gas tank.

Never dispose of gasoline by pouring it onto the ground or into a sewer, street drain, stream or other waterbody, or putting it into the trash. These actions are environmentally harmful and may result in a fire, explosion, or soil, surface or groundwater contamination. Fines and criminal penalties may be associated with improper disposal.

If it is not old gasoline, then pour it into your car's gas tank. You can also set it outside in a safe area, take off the cap and let it evaporate.

If you are in England then your local tip has a special section for all types of batteries including car batteries. Don't put them in your bin or on the fire.
