I had so much clean fun. We used to have drive-in restaurants and many teens worked there. We were allowed to start working at the age of 14. We were able to meet other teens from other surrounding towns. There were those who drank but we just did what we thought was right. Pot had only started in the 60s so drugs were not a problem. Viet Nam war brought the drugs, or so it seemed to us. We had teen night clubs and good music. The technologies were sufficient to the need. It sure looks as though we were happier in the 60s than teens are now. We could walk miles and not worry about being kidnapped. Get the picture? Peace baby.

The sixties were more enjoyable in some ways. We had the Beatles, which completely changed the music industry and fashion. It was an exciting time. University students doing their "sit-ins' to protest, what ever was the latest hot topic. The drug scene had exploded, which thankfully I never got into. James Bond movies were "BIG". Unfortunately, it was the time of the assassinations of John and Bobby Kennedy, Martin Luther. Space travel was in its infancy, and in 1969, Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon, in 1969. Never again would man look at the moon in quite the same way. John Lennon with his peace "love-ins". The Cuban Missile Crisis, I thought for sure that one would be WW 3. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Today, however, we have to deal with terrorist.

It was different. Someone's answer was wrong, we had two dumb-*** presidents in a row. There was a terrible war, race riots, and a president who sought to stop protesters by bullets. We had a sexual revolution (no AIDS, herpes) and that was fun. The cars were called muscle cars, and they drove like a Sherman tank with smoking tires. But it was new. We had a lot fewer people in the world, so we had more elbow-room. We were more innocent in many ways. Interstate freeways were hardly traveled once you got outside a city, except for the big routes which are even MORE traveled today. We had to learn a bit more self-reliance (we couldn't always call 'the guy" to fix our problems). We had 4-5 stations on TV, so we could easily skip watching for weeks on end. I am happy to have grown up then rather than now. I miss the elbow-room....

No computers, no internet, no e-mail, no life as we know it. It is a wonder the human race survived. TV was just coming out of black and white. Most day time TV was "I Love Lucy" reruns in black and white. Late 60s got us counterculture and hippies smoking pot while I was studying physics. JFK got us into the Vietnam War, the Bay of Pigs fiasco and then got himself shot. Richard Nixon got us out of Vietnam and through the oil embargo (decontrol price and supply takes care of itself) but thought he needed a direct line into the Democratic party headquarters. It was eventful but only time and memories can put it in some kind of perspective.
