What do you think of gowns for your newborn? I have heard lots of great things about them, how they are lifesavers for the middle of the night changes, but I have also heard a few bad things about how they are hard to get your baby into. They seem like a really great idea to be but I dont know how many to get? What would you sugest? Are they really needed or just another thing that was invented so mothers think they need them when they are really useless?

I had at least 5, but it depends on how much laundry you do a day or every few days, then you have to think about accidents.

I dont have any negative things to say about them. I loved them and they were great for us. My son doesn't keep covers on and this was the only way to really keep him warm.

Ash--Good luck

Gowns are okay. In my experience I've only seen them in the thinner material that's better for summer babies (or if you live in a year-round warm climate). The Carter's ones have the hand mittens that help keep the baby from scratching (but if you swaddle then their hands won't be near their face when they're sleeping anyways). They go over the head so if you have to change on in the middle of the night (think blowout) it's a little more involved than the ones that don't go over the head. My personal preference is either the sleep sack or the ones that button from neck line to both toes (avoid the PJs that zip down only one leg, its a pain in the **** to get the other leg in). The sleep sacks have the added advantage of being size 0-9 months rather than other PJs that only last for 0-3, 3-6, or 6-9 months. I'd suggest having about 5 pairs of PJs.

We got tons of them as gifts. I think we used one. I believe we actually have some that are still in the package. I just didn't like the gown. It wasn't really difficult to deal with, but I can change a diaper on a baby wearing a sleeper in my sleep, so I'm more comfortable with them.

Since everyone has different opinions and you might end up liking gowns for your baby, I would make a suggestion... Buy one pack (to start). Have it ready for your baby when he/she gets here. Try it out, see what you like or don't like about it and see if buying more is worth if for you. If it's not, you didn't waste too much money.

Good luck.

Walmart has some great gowns that are zip front!! They are like a one size fits all. One gown fits 0-9 monthes. I bought 7. One for every night of the week. I didn't use a new one every night (if there were no accidents) but it was nice to have that many on hand just in case i didn't get to the laundry.

I have 4 children, and newborn gowns were great. the reason that they are lifesavers in the middle of the night is because you don't have to worry about unzipping "feety" pajamas and pulling there legs out. You can just slid the gown up and the diaper is right there. you can do this and they won't even wake up! Putting them on your baby is kind of like putting leggings on...you have to scrunch the gown up right to the head part to put it on the baby. not hard at all

I think the night gowns are fine unless they are open at the bottom, the child could slip out in the middle of the night and be put in some sort of distress. Try getting the ones that snap at the bottom and I think you should be set, or you can put them in a simple onesie.

You should get as many as you need consider how often they sleep when and where they sleep and things like that. I would think 5 or 6 shouls be sufficient.

I like them a lot, they really are a life saver for middle of the night changes. I like the Gerber ones the best but Carter's are great as well. I wouldn't say that they're a necessity but they're a nice to have. With all the useless crap that we buy and receive for babies, you might as well just buy a few to try them out. You could certainly waste money on worse things. Like the Infantino sling. THAT was a waste of money.

it really is shown that the smoke debris may reason allergies and all sorts of resperatory issues. i'm 6 months pregnant and advised my mom immediately that she ought to ought to positioned on something at the same time as she holds my newborn besides. She did not like it, yet she will be ready to do it, because she loves him and would not decide on him to wade through. those who smoke have this ideas-set that each and each man or woman non those who smoke ***** about 2d hand and nil.33 hand (on thier outfits) smoke because they're only being too choosy. I continuously get the guidelines-set from those who smoke that i'm being a sissy or a wimp b/c i do not decide on to respire of their 2d hand smoke. it truly is purely the way those who smoke are... don't understand why. So anticipate them to ***** about wearing the gown, and then positioned it on them. Your toddler's well being is so well worth it.

For me they were life savers! I never had a problem with getting my baby into them. Plus they have a folded section at the end of the sleeve to cuff over the babys hand so they don't scratch in the middle of the night. I would have one for every night of the week!

I absolutely loved them for my son. it was weird to put him in a "gown" at first, but when i realized that it meant not buttoning all those damn buttons on the legs, i was all for them. they really are a lot easier and it's not hard to get babies into them at all, quite the opposite, i think. but at least 3 or 4 in case your baby spits up or something, that way you won't have to do laundry every day.
