Interesting question, lots of idiotic answers. THere were millions of FORMER slaves, the logistics of bring all of them back to Africa all at once was beyond any nation of that time. It would be hard to do even now.
In addition, if you think about it, taking millions of people to Africa and dumping them there would have been a bigger disaster than what actually happened. Many of them were born in the US, they had no knowledge of how to survive in Africa, their family connections with Africa had been severed by time and distance.
If we want to second-guess history we shoud go back farther and stop the use of them as slaves in the first place.

Aside to binibni pilipina or whatever that gibberish was, your answer was insulting and stupid! You have the gift of literacy, why the hell do you waste it on hateful garbage like that?

Intersting question. Just my thoughts, not a lot of preperation goes into this response.

Consider the times. North vs:South. A nation divided. People were preoccupied with saving themselves, their lifestyles and nations to fuss over a bunch of insignifican slaves. Slavery was NOT the main reason for the Cival war.

Take for example the battle of Gettysburg. 50,000+ soldiers died in one battle. ONE BATTLE!! Prioritize things. Your son, father or brother just dies in an undignified manner, and you are supposed to worry about slaves? I think not.

People were just war weary and glad it was over when it was over. Where the leftover human debris know as slaves were or what they were doing just wasn't first and foremost in most peoples day to to day thinking.

That was the great White mistake. The Union should have commandeered every freighter, passenger ship or barge to transport every damned slave back to the country of their choice.

Instead, we tried to merge black and white culture together under the guise that "we're all the same" and other nonsense. What has the alleged "rich African Culture" brought us? Detroit, Camden, NJ, Hartford, CT, Compton, Atlanta, New Orleans, and other cities that are largely black enclaves. Weflare, drugs, kids killing kids, and 13 year old mothers stuck forever on welfare. What a trip.

I'm not the godamned racist, my government is. They started it by NOT sending the ferrel beast back to where they belong.

1. Because some Africans knew how to handle themselves well after so many years of being here that this really became their home.

2. Some of those people, perhaps their ancestors were on this land (America) before the white man.

and 3. America couldnt survive with out them.

Actually some of them did go. The country is called Liberia.

When the freedman who returned to Liberia wrote home form Africa the letters were supressed, by the southern landowners who wanted to keep the former slaves (now sharecroppers) working thier fields.

I think many Africans got adapted to being in America. I know I'd rather live here than in Africa, not at all a race issue, but a opportunity issue. I'm grateful for my rights.

Blacks were still being enslaved after Lincoln "freed them" in the non-confederate states, therefore....LINCOLN DID NOT FREE THE SLAVES.

Slaves that did escape to the North, or who bought their freedom, were often kidnapped and taken back to the South.

I'm confused, first they (Anglos)say they weren't responsible with what happened in the past with the slavery issue. Then we get an ignorant question like this one,"why weren't OUR slaves blah, blah, blah".Go figure!

Because Africans were never meant to be "freed". Freedom doesn't just mean that chains are taken off.

Mind control is still happening to African Americans today. That couldn't have happened if we were sent back home.
