As long as they don't get self destructive, I think the whole "emo" thing is a cute little phase for the pre-pubes and the adolescents. It's a simple way to shock their parents and peers and to get out all that teen angst before they go off to college. It's also a nice "niche" for those more sensitive type of males to have a self-identity before they come out.

Because people are afraid of what they don't understand. Like you said most people stereotype people that sit in the corner and cry and cut their wrists. It's like the same with punks and goths. People are scared. They think just because you don't want to be looked at as a stupid person always smiling and walking into Abercrombie and Fitch that you don't even need to be treated like a human. I think as emo as a fashion trend that is sexy with a hint of the punk goth thing going on. I mean emos wear clothes just as tight as preppy people and they wear different colors like them as well. That's the sexy part. The goth punk part is the music and constant black clothing and make up. I think because of the softness of the music and the lyrics people always think of emos as crying babies. Well they can **** themselves I say.
PS---Emo boys are the sex...

Umm because a lot of them are perverted freaks!!! I do not think you can really be emo and not cut your wrists????? I mean sure you have the hair and the clothes plus music but emo people are known for cutting their wrists.

It's annoying. What's so revolutionary about young men getting in touch with their feelings? Isn't this what women have been asking for all along? And then the music industry acts like it's a new idea and cashes in on it? You have to be kidding me.
Talented singer/songwriters have been expressing their emotions in music for as long as I've been alive (Sting, Peter Gabriel, Paul Simon).
Plus, every emo song I've ever heard songs exactly like every other emo song. I have yet to hear anything GOOD!

they cut their wrists when there mad(stupid) and they wear those skinny pants that look complety stupid. there is a difference between wrangler straight leg and emo straight leg. Im going to have to go with the wranglers with the ring faded in my back pocket. not skinny pants that arent even big enough to hold a wallet.

What i dont get is why in order to be emo you have to wear tightass pants! I also dont get why in order for a guy to be sensitive and in touch with his feelings why he has to be emo! WTF! I dont think ppl would consider me emo but i love emo chicks and my last gf was emo and she sometimes said i was, but i dont dress like it cuz i think its dumb! all the ppl who say they hate emo ppl is cuz they think they all feel sorry for themselves all the time and cut! it sickens me! emo is a feeling, a mentality, not a damn fashion statement!!! all i can say is ppl need to open their eyes and accept ppl for who they are, not what they wear!

I can say that the reason I don't like emo is b/c they sound like a bunch of wannabe rock stars. It's like bubble gum pop rock, and it sucks. The emo boys look like posers.

A lot of people call me emo, but I don't cut myself.
I take "emo" as a fashion statement; NOT a lifestyle
