One hand of fingers goes under the pillow. The other, on the bed. What do my fingers know? I couldn't tell you, I've never asked.

I don't know because my eyes are closed, but i think where ever you put them before you sleep they stay there, unless you move them. Why?

They sleep under my pillow, warm and safe.
I really don't use them in the bed if I'm not with company. ahem.
