The power supply on my Sony Vaio desktop went bad so I've replaced it with a new one and I'm getting the same message but no whirring fan noise. Could this one be bad as well or is there some step that I left out when I installed the new device.

1. if you were getting this error in the first place then it wasnt your power supply at all because the PC wouldnt boot full stop implying its another device

2. ensure ALL cables are connected correctly (pull them off then reconnect them

3. ensure all drives are cofigured to be detected automatically in your bios

4. change the damaged device i.e.keyboard / mouse / floppy / harddrive

The Power settings in the control panel are probably messed up.

That makes no sense at all, because if it was on at all the psu was good. fan or not.
I think its a malfunctioning sensor. if you flash your bios, then it could go away. It cant hurt as long as you do it right.
