I've recently started writing a mystery book and I just need some more help on where to go. What do you think really makes a book good?

Suspense and foreshadowing. Giving the reader enough suspense to keep the pages turning, but providing enoug detail to keep them guessing and speculating. Keep the plot moving and give vivid narratives.

Characterization. Does the story have characters (persons, people) that are drawn so well that the reader cares about them? Do the characters "come alive" on the page? What good is a character if the reader does not care about (him) or what happens to (him)?

I suggest that you read three good mystery stories by Umberto Eco: "The Name of the Rose," "Foucault's Pendulum," and "The Mysterious Flame of Queen Loanna." Next I suggest that you read one bad mystery story by Umbertio Eco, "The Island of the Day Before."

In a mystery book look for suspense and murder or disappearance and after so many years of looking for him/her they start to give up and then someone sees her or she comes back and then a different person related to the other one disappears or is murdered and when they come back they are acting all weird and strange
