I'm looking to put some all-terrain tires on my ford ranger 4x4 off road pickup. I have some girly looking tires on it right now. Not very aggressive and too small. 235/70/16. Is their a noticeable difference in the two sizes that i'm looking at above???

The 245 or 265 is the width of the tire (in millimeters), so the 265 is 20 mm (or about 3/4 of an inch) wider than the 245.

However, it sounds like you are more interested in the tire height. This can be calculated by taking the width (265), multiplying by the aspect ratio (75%), and dividing by 25.4 to get the sidewall height in inches. To get overall height, double the sidewall height (1 on top, 1 on bottom), and add to the rim diameter (16). Doing this yields the following results:
235/70/16 = 29.0 inches
245/75/16 = 30.5 inches
265/75/16 = 31.6 inches

Both of the tires you are considering are good choices for this vehicle, but I'd go with the 265's!

The 265/75/16 is both wider and taller than the 245/75/16. The increase in tire diameter would be enough to make the speedometer read slightly off (you will actually be traveling a little faster than your speedometer is showing). I have no idea if there will be a problem with the tire rubbing the fenderwells or anything, but if I were to guess I would say if it does it peobably won't be too much. There would be a very noticable difference in size, though. Definately would earn your man card back with the 265/75/16.

I think some people have lost the plot with this. The differences are minor. I say that in as much as I've had plenty of conversations with Americans and never once have they or I been confused. Sure there are some differences in spellings and pronunciation. Some of the words we use have different meanings, but so what? Most of these are common knowledge so it's not a problem. One thing I will point out however, Ther person who said that The English have tonnes and America has tons has been misleading with that. In England we use both tonnes and tons as they are different measurements of weight 1 Tonne = 1000kg this is metric 1 Ton = 2240 lb this is imperial

The 265's would be the larger tire overall. The 245's would be in the middle.

Roughly 20 mm of tread width, and 20mm is about 1 1/2 inch.
not a big difference at all.
