Acting (pun intended) as saviors for the poor, hungry, homeless, etc.

Most people I know are aware of the problems of the world but take a more realistic view of them.

Because most of them never have actually lived in the real world. Therefore they have no real comprehension of it and how it works.

Don't be so ignorant;I know you're here to solve this question, but the least you could do is act respectfully.

The sole reason that celebrities believe they can save the world is because they can and they know they can. Celebrities are celebrities because they can influence people's lives. Not to mention that they have the money and means to make a substantial difference.

People who take 'realistic' views simply can't or don't want to help drastically and don't see any other way to help then by doing what they see as 'realistic'

It's not so much that they believe they can save the world but more likely that they can do something about the problems of the world. With their fame and celebrity status, they are in a better position, and have more resources, to help. I am sure that they also have come to the realization that what they can do is never enough.

If celebrities really cared they would combine thier cash and end world poverty.

It's all publicity for them. Oprah build a school in Africa... WHOOP DE DO!! She can buy a whole country or pay off thier debts so they don't struggle with the rediculous intrest rate which keep them poor.

Probably because they often have phenomenal wealth and a method to reach out to ordinary people in a way which politicians and military forces cannot hope to do. It may not ultimately do much to help in the grander scale, but it helps make people aware of problems and allows them to make a personal commitment towards their solution.

It's really funny that you ask that but it's true they do think they can save the world. They think because the are famous they can impact people's lives and get people to follow them which sometimes can be true but most of the time what they propose is unrealistic and almost impossible.

When you have money and the government is telling you that you can get relief from taxes if you give away part of your earnings to a charitable organization then you would want to be that super hero too, but in their eyes(some not all) they only see themselves saving money and not losing it.

I don't think that they think that. Rather, I would like to think that if I had money, as they do, that I would spend it trying to help as many people as I could rather than keeping it all for a larger house, and more cars. I admire them, even if I don't particularly like them.
