I learned that writing a summary for a 500+ page book takes about 2 hours if you want to be thorough and detailed but not necessarily coherent the whole way through. And inevitably, there are important details that can escape memory even after a few hours, even if one thoroughly enjoys the story. That's why I should have the book to hand the next time I try this...
