My New Year's Resolution is to improve my social life / hang out with friends more often at places outside of school. So far I have hung out more than I usually do, but that is still not really enough. Any tips?

I have enough friends to ask. Sometimes I just feel too shy around them. I realized that the first time this year that I hung out with someone was to stop being shy and to ask them. But my shyness keeps coming back and I want to know how to overcome my shyness and start hanging out outside of school more often with the friends I have. I am just afraid that I will feel awkward.

I talk all the time with people in school and two weeks ago I hung out with one of them, which made me feel much better and happier, but some days, like today, I feel bored and I want to know some tips on how to ask my friends to hang out because I am still rather shy.

I'd say that if you are really hung, let all the girls know it. They'll be swarming in no time.

Join a club, or go to festivals, concerts, anywhere with social activity, a positive place. Maybe you could find friends here on yahoo. Get acquainted first before picking friends, because you don't want to pick the wrong ones. Have Fun!

i'm kinda the same way. it's not that i don't have friends, but i feel like hanging out with people is a chore. i often have fun when my friends manage to drag me out. i'm kind of a loner and i don't NEED people to feel complete, but it is healthy to go out once in a while so you don't get lost in your own mind from being alone all the time. i found a few friends that i really trust and harldy ever feel uncomfortable around, i go out with them once every weekend, and i've noticed that i've been having alot of fun. it feels like less of a chore and it's turning into a habit i don't mind keeping up. also working in retail helped. i was forced to socialize with customers, i met alot of different types of people and found that they can be interesting. and since you never have to see them again you're not worried about making a fool of yourself. this works for me. hope the advice helps.
