I am getting a new laptop and have a choice of a intel core Duo T2250 1.73GHz (32 bit ) with 2GB ram
Or a Intel Core2Duo 1.6GHz (64bit) 1GB ram

Buying extra would really jack up the price tag so im not willing to try that. Can anyone tell me which is best? The machine will have Vista on it, and Linux, and running some videos and a little math software. I dont want to have a stone age machine in like 6 month either. I probably will be upgrading in about 2 years time also.
Thanks:

well the 64 bit is wayy faster but most apps dont use the 64 bit to its advantage it just uses 32 so i would chose teh 32 bit only because it has more ram and its faster

What's the cost on the notebook? Try looking at a Lenovo Thinkpad 2623-DAU. This has a 1.83 Intel Core Duo with 512MB of RAM, but you can add additional RAM for about $110/1GB. List is about $1,489 but comes with a 3 year depot warranty.

I buy notebooks all the time for the University I work for and truthfully, if you can get the 1st choice, you'll be much better off in the long run. Unless you plan to use 64bit software than you would have to go with your second choice.

Any notebook you get with the spec's you mentioned is not going to be lightning speed anyway.

actual get a quickly processor, it ought to look superb contained in the quick run, yet contained in the destiny it wont do you a lot solid. you ought to decide on to play video games and such contained in the destiny and all of your doing is restricting your self via having it. i ought to for my area spend extremely better and get a 2.0 ghz on the least. in the journey that your on the low priced, you'll hit upon a exceptionally solid deal on a twin middle a million.8Ghz which will nonetheless be much better effective than a a million.6Ghz CPU.

right now you are better off with the 64 bit system. yea it has less ram and such but in two years time most all will be running 64bit stuff.
