how is the gear shift movement restricted in case of a motorbike?
how is that we always shift from 1-2 not 1-3 directly...i mean what mechanism is used to indicate the shift of a gear.

You could have ask an easier question - LOL. A motorcycle has what is called a sequental shift transmission and that is what is also used in a race car. To try and make this simple, the movement of the shifter activates a ratchet (kind of like a socket wrench) and the lever has a stop to keep you from moving it too far and going into the next gear. Since there is a stop on this ratcheting mechanism you have to release it so it can ratchet again for the next shift.
